This week in NYC, SculptureCenter hosts its annual benefit “Lucky Draw,” an event where each ticket holder is guaranteed to walk away with an artwork and the order of selection is determined by a random drawing. Participating artists include both up-and-comers and established names, such as Afruz Amighi, Uri Aran, Olaf Breuning, Claes Oldenburg, and Marianne Vitale. Tickets for this year sold out fast, so if you weren’t lucky enough to get one, be sure to mark your calendars for next year.
The High Line unveils a new work by British artist David Shrigley as part of their High Line Billboard series, in which an artist takes over a 25-by-75 foot billboard overlooking the High Line at 18th Street. Past artists in the series include John Baldessari, Joel Sternfeld, and Robert Adams. Anne Collier, whose work was also a part of the series last year, has a solo show of new works at Anton Kern Gallery opening this week. Other highlights this week include a group show of young artists at West Street Gallery and an installation by Valentin Carron at 303 Gallery.
